Dell’s latest iteration of their popular G15 gaming rig brings upgraded hardware like 12th Gen Intel processors and RTX graphics while maintaining a budget-friendly price. I benchmarked the 5520 variant packing an i5-12500H CPU, 16GB DDR5 RAM and RTX 3050 4GB GPU using the famously demanding title Grand Theft Auto V to quantify real-world performance.

Dell G15 5520 Tested Configuration
The Dell G15 model 5520 I evaluated with intensive GTA V testing was configured with:
- CPU: 12th Gen Intel Core i5-12500H
- RAM: 16GB DDR5 4800MHz
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 4GB GDDR6
- Display: 15.6” 1920×1080 120Hz Screen
- Storage: 512GB PCIe NVME SSD
This hardware meets/exceeds official GTA V recommended specs. Benchmarking would determine how the laptop handles heavy gaming loads in real-world gameplay.
GTA V Performance Benchmarks on Dell G15 5520
Right away the in-game benchmark showed promising performance:
Low Settings (1080p)
- Avg FPS: 119
- Highest FPS: 142
- Visual Quality: Decent but lacks shadows/reflections
Medium Settings (1080p)
- Avg FPS: 82
- Highest FPS: 97
- Visual Quality: Excellent fidelity and speed
High Settings (1080p)
- Avg FPS: 68
- Highest FPS: 84
- Visual Quality: Gorgeous but some dense area slowdowns
Maintaining 60+ FPS even on High settings proves the RTX 3050 and 12th Gen Intel CPU can power modern AAA games smoothly. Medium delivered the best balance of visual effects and high framerates.
Temperature and Noise Levels
During prolonged gameplay sessions, the Dell G15 5520 maintained relatively cool temperatures thanks to an effective thermal design.
CPU and GPU core temperatures peaked around 85°C when pushing high framerates for over an hour. The large rear vents and dual fans kept critical components from overheating. Chassis surfaces felt only slightly warm to the touch even after continuous gaming.
The dual fans did ramp up to more audible levels to dissipate heat buildup, but noise output remained below distracting thresholds when wearing headphones. While audible, it avoided excessive annoyance levels.
Optimized Settings For Best Gameplay
For the optimal gameplay experience, I suggest:
- Texture/Geometry Quality: Very High
- MSAA: Off
- Reflection Quality: High
- Population Variety: High
This provides immersive world detail while keeping framerates highest for snappy control response critical in fast-paced firefights.
My Gameplay Experience
Actual gameplay showed equally good performance with no perceived issues. The Medium preset held a perfect 60 FPS lock whether firing weapons or racing through the city’s streets. Gameplay felt perfectly fluid and responsive thanks to sufficient hardware power.
Pushing to High settings, framerates ranged 55-65 FPS allowing mostly fluid performance. Only dramatic explosions among 20+ characters provoked momentary dips into the 40 FPS range. Overall, GTA 5 played excellently and remained gorgeous looking on the Dell G15.
Dell’s 2022 G15 gaming laptop delivers genuine 60 FPS AAA gameplay as proven in my GTA V testing sessions. Armed with 12th Gen Intel muscle and RTX graphics while maintaining value pricing, buyers wanting affordable mobile gaming performance need look no further than the capable G15 5520.
